Massive Protests Burst Out In Odisha After BJP Leader Manguli Jena Was Shot Dead

Police Report: Unidentified men have killed BJP Leader Manguli Jena in Khurda, Odisha.

Manguli Jena, the BJP Mandal President of Khurda Zone-9 was shot dead on Sunday midnight by unidentified men, officials said that the BJP Leader was standing near the house of Kalu Charan Khandayat, a member of the BJP, when the incident happened.

Officials said 4 rounds were fired at the BJP Leader, but only 2 bullets hit him. Mr. Jena was rushed to the Khurda District Headquarters Hospital, but was declared as dead upon arrival by the doctors there.

The police have locked down the city and launched a probe for the incident right away.

Officials also raided a couple of places in Khurda to arrest the said assailants, the motive behind the murder is still not clear.

Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan asked the workers and leaders of the BJP to keep faith in democracy and should maintain peace in the city, he added, “People will give their reply to bullet through the ballot in the coming election.”

Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, condemned the murder of Manguli Jena and has asked the EC to direct the police to take strict actions against the suspects of the murder.

CM Patnaik tweeted, “There is no place of violence in democracy. I convey my deep condolence to the bereaved family.”

Jitu Mitra, a candidate from the BJD said, “I condemn this incident. This is for the first time in my 40-year long political career that a political leader has been killed in Khurda.”

Khurda is placed under the Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha Seat, which is set to go for polling on 23 April.
