Meghalaya Miner’s Body Pulled Out From Mine

A decomposing body has been retrieved by the Indian Navy from the 370 feet deep illegal mine

15 miners were trapped inside an illegal flooded mine in Meghalaya, today, the Indian Navy has managed to retrieve a decaying dead body inside the 370 feet deep illegal mine. Officials have now sent the dead body for an autopsy.

The dead body was seen last week, but it slipped when the Indian Navy was trying to bring it out, this happened on Wednesday.

The body was retrieved from a 100 feet depth inside the flooded mine, the navy brought the body up and pulled it out by using a crane.

The families of the miners requested the rescuers to bring the dead bodies back so that they can perform the death rituals.

The Indian Navy is currently trying to locate the other dead bodies by using their ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicles) inside the 370 feet illegal flooded mine in East Jaintia Hills.

The Indian Navy has spotted skeletons inside the mines by using their ROV, but it is still not clear if those bodies are the ones that they are looking for. Officials say that the water inside the illegal mine contains a high amount of sulfur, this allows the bodies to decompose faster.

On December 13, 2019, 15 miners suddenly disappeared inside the mine, after reporting the incident an operation was launched by the Indian Navy and the NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) to rescue the lost miners.

The agencies also tried to use water pumps to bring down the water level inside the 370 feet illegal mine, but sadly this did not help.

The 5 miners who got out said that one of the workers accidentally punctured the wall of a nearby flooded abandoned mine.

The Supreme Court ordered to continue the search as they believe miracles can happen. The Supreme Court also requested the Meghalaya government to ask help from experts to rescue the trapped miners.

The illegal mine can be found on a very hard to reach place, in order to reach there you need to pass a 30-foot lytein river 3 times. There was no habitation found in the area, and it is said that around 90 coal mines are present in the same area.
