Modi Betrayed Andhra Pradesh Once Again: Chandrababu Naidu

Referring to the prime minister’s speech during the debate in Lok Sabha on Friday, the Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and president of the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) N Chandrababu Naidu said that the attitude of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was filled with arrogance and showed no sign of least care for the sentiments of our state.

The Lower House was busy debating the no-confidence motion moved by the TDP over the central government’s total “failure” to give a special status to Andhra Pradesh as was promised before the bifurcation of the state.

The approach of prime minister in his speech was as if Andhra Pradesh was not part of India, said Naidu during an interview.

“His arrogance was because he had the numbers,” said Naidu. He termed the no-confidence motion as a fight between majority and morality while speaking to reporters after the no-confidence motion was defeated in the Lok Sabha on Friday night.

“It is very disappointing to see the country’s PM taking AP’s wishes and sentiments for granted. Rejecting our demands just because we do not have a majority shows the insensitivity of the PM against our State,” Naidu later said in a tweet using the hashtag #AgainBJPCheatedAP.

The reason behind the no-confidence motion against the Modi government at the center, according to Naidu, was that the state of Andhra Pradesh waited for long while putting efforts to seek the Centre’s support for a special status for Andhra Pradesh failed.

“The NDA government has repeatedly neglected our state and its people’s sentiments. We will continue our fight,” he said.

Talking about the Prime Minister’s comments that he had issued a warning to Naidu to be careful so as to not fall into the trap of YSR Congress, the TDP Chief made his stand clear that the Prime Minister was doing utter injustice to the state to gain political mileage and resorting to blackmail.

“It is unbecoming of a person holding the position of the Prime Minister to say such things,” he said.

Naidu said that five crores of Andhra Pradesh were disappointed by the Prime Minister’s attitude towards them in Lok Sabha. The people of the state hoped that Modi would repent over his misdeed of not fulfilling promises that were made for the state and correct himself. “The NDA government has proved once again that they don’t believe in democratic values. The Prime Minister was allowed to speak for more than an hour, whereas we were not given more than a few minutes to respond,” he said in another tweet.

Reiterating his earlier stance that the state of Andhra Pradesh has been time and again cheated, he said that the people to stage demonstrations on Sunday.

He further claimed that a no-confidence motion moved by a regional party was backed by several parties from across the country.

Making it clear about his friends and foes in Indian politics, Naidu said that whoever is with him in the fight for Andhra Pradesh’s special status demand are his friends and rest others his foes.

“My state and its interests are everything to me,” he said.
