Mother Who Followed Vegetarian Lifestyle For A Decade Ate 1 Burger And Became A Butcher

An Australia mother who was following a vegetarian lifestyle for nearly a decade ate one burger when she was pregnant, she is now a butcher.

Tammi Jonas, a 49-year-old mother, owns her own pasteurized pig farm.

She was a vegetarian in the 1970s after she read a book about how animals were treated on farms.

Tammi said she tasted meat for the first time in 10 years after she became dangerously anemic.

During her interview with the press, she said, “I was at work one day and just thought: ‘a burger would fix this’.” She was right because she never turned back.”

Tammi went back to red meat, lamb, and beef during her pregnancy.

Talking about her belief, Tammi said, “I never thought it was immoral to take an animal’s life for food – I’ve always been comfortable with my place in the food chain, but I thought it was immoral to treat [animals] cruelly, to not allow them to go outside and breathe fresh air and to be confined in crowds in sheds.”

Tammi and Stuart, the husband of Tammi, did some research one day and came up with the idea of running a small farm.

Tammi and her husband found out that they could make a living from farming on a small scale with a focus on treating animals ethically and properly.

On her website, Tammi said, “My journey from mindless industrial eater to vegetarian to ethical omnivore led me all the way to becoming a pig farmer to contribute to the growing movement to get pigs and poultry back out of sheds and onto paddocks.”

The website added, “We now grow, butcher and cure all of our meat, and serve 80 households from our thriving community-supported agriculture (CSA) farm.”

Tammi claims they do not use harmful chemicals in their farming and animals live on their farm like they were not on a farm at all.

Tammi said her farming practices are ethical and holistic.
