According to the reports, the attack was planned and aimed to destroy the shrine. Najih physically stopped the terrorist from entering the shrine, hugging him before his explosive-laden vest detonated, killing them.
Najih had done great job sacrificing his life for many people around him. He managed to take direct impact of the explosion, reducing the death toll at the Shrine. According to a Joint Operations, 70 people were injured in this attack.
ISIS bombers disguised themselves as a local militia in an attempt to storm and destroy what is considered one of Iraq’s most important Shia shrines. However, Najih’s sacrifice ensured that the shrine was not damaged and saved hundreds of lives.
