Mustafizur Rahman doesn’t talk much, he does all the things with his bowling skills. At present he is playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL season9 and performing his best. He has easily been the stand-out bowler so far for Sunrisers Hyderabad, with seven wickets from five games at an economy rate of 5.75. His 2 for 9 against Kings XI Punjab in the last game is a remarkable achievement.
In an exclusive interview with extra time, Mustafizur said, “I have tried to give my best. My philosophy is that a batsman has to start from zero whatever the format is. So I have always kept that in mind and try to get through their defense early on in their innings.”
Mustafizur Mastering his Off-Cutter:
When asked about the secret behind his off-cutter he said “This is my natural talent. No one has taught me personally to bowl off cutters. During 2013-14 season I got an opportunity to bowl in the nets during the national camp in Mirpur. Both Anamul Haq Bijoy and Moshraffe Bhai was watching me bowl closely as the nets. Later they both suggested me that I should work on mastering this ball.”
Asking about his English speaking skills he replied “It’s true that I don’t understand English or Hindi too well. But at the end of the day, cricket has its own language and I know what is expected out of me. I try to keep doing the things that I know I am good at and I also make an effort to understand what the captain wants. So till now, things have worked out well”.
He also said he has no favourite wicket. And he is very much happy with taking every wicket he gets. And there is no batsman in the world who really bothers him believing if he can perform to the best of my abilities
“Yes, they call me ‘FIZ’ in the team. I am also the youngest member of the team.I am enjoying my stint here in SRH. My teammates have been fantastic so far. I have become a good friend of David Warner. Barinder Saran and I enjoy the greatest friendships. Both VVS Laxman and Muralitharan has been guiding me like an elder brother. I couldn’t have asked for anything more.”
Finally, speaking on the ‘Shovegate’ incident with MS Dhoni, Mustafizur added that he would like to apologize MS Dhoni for the same.
“Well, I still maintain that I have not done it intentionally. But as things stand I have moved on leaving it behind me. But still I would like to say sorry to Dhoni for the incident when I meet him.”
