A youth from Bihar was killed in police firing on Monday during a protest in Nepal close to the international border, leading Prime Minister Narendra Modi to express shock and condemn the “unfortunate killing” and speak to his Nepal counterpart K.P. Sharma Oli for seeking details about the incident.
Ashish Ram, a 19-year-old student from Darbhanga, was killed by Nepal Police while firing at protestors in the Nepali border town of Birgunj. The Maitry Road Bridge on Sarisawa river connects both the countries on the border. The United Madhesi Front activists have been staging dharna on this bridge for the past 40 days, blocking road communication between the two countries. Several protesters were injured by rubber bullets fired by the security forces.
