It’s been more than two months that our beloved Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the demonetisation of higher value currency notes, people’s woes of procuring and using the new Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 notes do not seem to end.
Just a month back, new 500 rupees notes got circulated in the market. Soon after the introduction of the new notes, there were a lot of news about the misprints and errors people found on them.
And now, a new piece of news is taking rounds as a Twitter user has claimed that the new notes of Rs. 500 don’t survive even a single round in a washing machine. Many of us have at least once in our lives given our clothes out to the laundry with paper cash in our jeans or shirts’ pockets, but rarely have the notes been returned faded crumpled.
Twitter user Ravi Handa has posted the picture of a new Rs 500 note, which according to him did not survive a spin. It seems like the note was in the pocket when he had given it for washing.
Check your pockets before giving your clothes for a wash.

The claims got a lot of witty responses on Twitter and some even claimed to have faced similar issues.
@calamur it’s a feature. It prevents money laundry-ing. *sorry*.

Reportedly, RBI uses high-security ink to print the currency notes. According to reports, the government started printing the new notes in August-September last year, using the printing facility at Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Ltd (BRBNMPL) in Mysuru under Reserve Bank of India.
While there have been several such claims on social media, it’s still not clear if this is authentic or another rumor. A woman had earlier claimed that the note she got from an ATM was crumbling.
