We all know that Reliance is offering the cheapest ever mobile data network and mobile tariffs for the smartphone users in the country. As soon as Reliance Jio arrived into the market, it started a big battle between Indian telecom firms regarding their customers and offers being provided. Hence, the tariff war is officially on.
These companies can’t simply sit and wait for Jio to take over them. Telecom companies like Airtel, Vodafone, Idea and BSNL, are working hard on their tariff plans and offers which can help them get their customers back. In this regard, on Sunday, telecom giants Vodafone and BSNL have formed a partnership on a 2G intra-circle roaming agreement (ICR). In the same way, India’s largest telecom provider Bharti Airtel has now agreed to provide additional points of interconnection to the new 4G entrant Reliance Jio.
Big Twist In Telecom War:
Thus, Airtel offers a point of interconnects to Reliance Jio which helps the newest 4G operator to serve its customers who are facing problems like call drops since its launch. In a statement, Jio said that customers faced over 220 million call failures on Airtel’s network. The Jio consumers faced over 520 million calls failures cumulatively on Airtel, Vodafone, and Idea.
Jio has been intimating and informing to the TRAI, about how the operators were not releasing interconnect bandwidth. As a result, on Monday, Idea had offered Reliance Jio additional PoIs to Jio. Bharti Airtel would also give Jio PoI which is three times the current level.
“Following its bilateral discussions with Reliance Jio (“Jio”), it will provide additional PoIs to Jio. Airtel had extended an invitation to Jio to discuss its requirement of additional PoI.” A statement revealed.
Idea and Airtel have noticed the huge disproportions in the traffic volume between their and Jio network.
Airtel said, “Having agreed to release the PoIs, it would also need to take cognizance of the massive asymmetry in the volume of traffic between the two networks and ensure that the quality of service for Airtel customers is not impacted.”
Due to the free services provided by Jio, the other incumbents are suffering losses on each call made to their network from Jio. Airtel has asked TRAI to look into the issue of asymmetric traffic urgently as it becomes a big problem to their customers in near future.
