North Central Railways (NCR) Develops Smartphone Apps For Staff And Passengers

Lucknow: Two new mobile apps were launched by the North Central Railways (NCR) by brand name ‘NCR RASTA’ and ‘Yatri RASTA’, for its employees and passengers, respectively, in order to locate assets and stations.

“NCR RASTA (Railway assets Summerised Tracking Application) and Yatri RASTA (Railway Approach to Station Tracking Application) were launched today by NCR General Manager Rajiv Chaudhry,” North Central Railway PRO Amit Malviya told News Agencies.

The ‘NCR RASTA’ app is designed to be used by the railway officers and its staff and has provided exact mapping of all railway assets.

“It will enable railway staff to reach desired asset using Google Navigation in case of any emergency,” he said.

In the same way, the ‘Yatri RASTA’ app will help general public to be able to locate the railway stations with an ease. The app is already available to be downloaded to smartphones with Android OS platforms with out any cost to pay through Google Play Store, Malviya said.

According to the General Manager Mr. Chaudhry, the NCR was committed to utilize the latest technologies to make the railway passenger’s journey easier, pleasant and memorable.

“We are also committed to the use of cutting-edge technology in better maintenance of railway assets and for handling emergencies. Both these apps are aimed at helping us fulfil our twin objectives of passenger service and asset maintenance,” he said.

The IT department of the NCR developed the apps, headed by Chief Manager (IT) Anshoo Pandey, Mr. Chaudhry said.

Indian railways are considered to be on 4th largest network of railways around the globe. With huge populations, that mainly rely on railways to transport goods or travel somewhere, India hardly needs the technologies that may bring ease in travel. Many a times passengers face difficulties in finding trains on a station with the confusion of the platform announced for the train.

As this is the era of smartphones, people will tend to use the app effectively to find their routes, trains and can even locate their coaches easily without hassles. What just the passenger has got to do is to open the app and select certain criteria to get the details of the train or station after giving details of their travel.

Another app that provides railway staff an ease to find their routes and assets is also a great achievement and proper utilization of technologies. But more needs to be done to modernize Indian Railways.
