A number of people had been seen jumping from the windows of a 25-storey apartment building in Los Angeles after a fire started on the 6th floor.
According to reports, the fire was reported to the Los Angeles Fire Department at around 8:30 am at the building.
The incident happened at 11740 West Wilshire Boulevard in California City.
The jumpers that can be seen in the video jumped around the floor where the fire was well developed.
In a statement that was released by the Los Angeles Fire Department, they said a 25-storey residential high-rise with a well-developed fire on the 6th floor of the building.
The statement added, “Persons (number undetermined) has reportedly jumped from that or nearby floors.”
An updated statement from the fire department said there were 335 Los Angeles Fire Department attending the fire.
There were also 4 Los Angeles Fire Department helicopters at the scene.
A number of people who were in the building were medically evacuated by one of the helicopters that were at the scene.
According to reports, 1 of the rescued resident was in traumatic arrest and paramedics attempted to perform CPR.
In a terrifying video that was shared on Twitter, a person can be seen inching his way along into ledge to avoid the fires.
At the time of the incident, the fire was billowing from the windows of the residential block.
A fire crew tried to rescue the person on the ledge as they were moving away from the inferno in order to bring them down to the floor.
At least 15 people, which included some people in bathrobes, were airlifted to safety from the rooftop of the building.
This was the first time the fire chopper had been used in rescue efforts.
Ralph Terrazas, the Fire Chief, said, “This was a herculean effort by the members of the Los Angeles Fire Department. It takes a lot of coordination, and our resources did a good job.”
