Shahid Kapoor’s latest movie ‘Udta Punjab’ became a big controversy in the country regarding its release and clashes with CBFC. We all know that Censor Board had given a cut list for the Udta Punjab team in which 69 cuts were asked.
After, all the problems were rectified; the film was given permission to release on June 17, 2016. But here came the twist to the Udta Punjab movie makers. The movie was leaked online 2 days prior to the theatrical release.
Police started the investigation upon the complaint lodged by the Udta Punjab movie makers. Finally, the culprit was caught the Cyber Cell of Mumbai and arrested on Wednesday. He was identified as Deepak Kumar, the owner of torrent site allzmovie.in. As the 1st torrent of Udta Punjab has appeared on this website, the police traced the accused as Deepak Kumar.
“The complainant was informed that the said movie was leaked on the internet on two separate links of the website of Torrentz.com. On downloading the movie it was revealed that the first sensor copy was stolen and uploaded on Torrentz.com by user robby007,” a Mumbai Police statement said.
“During the investigation, it was revealed that website allmovie.in had uploaded the said link on its website. A team visited Delhi and adjoining areas and after diligent efforts, Deepak Kumar was traced. He was summoned to the cyber police station, Mumbai, and after a thorough investigation, his active role was revealed. He has been arrested,” it added.
Earlier, the film producers had lodged a complaint with the Cyber Cell of Mumbai after the film’s copy with “For Censor” watermark was leaked online on various torrent sites. Thereby it has raised a question about the role of censor board in Udta Punjab leak. But all the allegations were rejected by Pahlaj Nihalani, the chairperson of CBFC saying that the board has no role to play in this leak.
Nihalani added that “The person responsible has already been identified and the leak will be tracked down. We will cooperate if we are approached as part of the investigation.” The makers of Udta Punjab struggled to remove copies of the movie that were available for download on torrent sites.
