Watch: Real-Time Language Translator Pilot Could Change The Way You Travel

Who doesn’t like travelling? Language barrier is the most common problem everyone faces when one visit different countries. If trying to order dinner or find your hotel abroad fills you with fear due to your abysmal grasp of foreign languages, don’t panic. There is a smart solution for your problems.

A forthcoming in-ear gadget is claimed to be able to translate speech like the Babel Fish in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, or the Universal Translator gadget in Star Trek. The system, dubbed the Pilot, comprises two earpieces to be worn by two people who do not speak the same language and uses an app so the duo can converse with ease.

PILOT, the first of its kind, the new in-ear device claims to be able to translate in real time between French, Spanish, Italian and English and will only retail at a relatively modest $129 when it begins shipping around September. It is claimed to be the first ‘smart earpiece’ capable of translating between two languages.

PILOT Real-Time Language Translator:

The Pilot system is expected to work via an app that allows the user to switch between languages. However, it is to be noted that Pilot may struggle with dialects and accents. Initially the gadget is coming in three colors Black, White and Red.

How Does Pilot Works:

The Pilot works only when you are speaking to someone who also has an earpiece. That is why the package comes with two earpieces. Future generations of the earpiece will be updated to listen to EVERYTHING happening around you, not just the person you are talking to.

The company behind the technology, Waverly Labs, said: “This little wearable uses translation technology to allow two people to speak different languages but still clearly understand each other”.
