Police In Noida Planning To Use Drones To Maintain Vigil On Independence Day

Noida: Ahead of the Independence day, the police in Gautam Buddh Nagar have increased vigil to keep security checks in its stringent form across the city. Public places such as metro stations and shopping malls have been made among priority areas, officials said on Monday.

The police are maintaining high vigil after they received intelligence input from the Delhi Police about the suspected presence of some terrorists planning attacks in the capital city on August 15, they said.

The police force nowadays on high alert around August 15 and January 26 every year and extra caution are being maintained in and around the city of Delhi, Superintendent of Police, Noida City, Arun Kumar Singh said.

Some evil forces envious of India’s progress try everything to cause some or the other mischief on such special days, therefore, the security measures have been increased, the officer said.

“Some alerts were issued from Delhi and keeping that in view, we have stepped up security checks and monitoring here,” he told reporters.

He also said that if required, the police is seeing all options including deploying drone cameras for monitoring the situation in the city.

Mr. Singh also said that places such as public ones, where general people visit in large numbers like metro stations, bus stands, shopping malls, multiplexes are a priority, while enough attention is toward other vital installations.

“Places where public turns out in huge numbers are soft targets. Any attack there causes more loss to life and property and makes bigger news.

“All places like shopping malls, metro stations, and all vital installations such as Taksaal (a unit of the Government of India Mint), NTPC (National Thermal Power Corporation) offices, Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) — both under the state government and central government — are being continuously monitored,” he said.

Mr. Singh further added that the anti-sabotage teams and bomb disposal squads have been deployed to do security checks at all important installations.

He also said that at the beginning of the day till the Independence Day, all police units will be made on extra alert from Noida city to Greater Noida, which also includes all rural areas which have the vital installations.

The local investigations unit and civil police (LIU) have also taken steps to increase vigilance, he said, while adding that the police are very alert due to the ongoing ‘kanwar yatra’.
