On Saturday, Four members of the Rajya Sabha has been nominated by the President Ram Nath Kovind.
Former BJP lawmaker Ram Shakal, classical dancer Sonal Mansingh, RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha, and stone artist Raghunath Mohapatra have been nominated for Rajya Sabha.
According to the Prime Minister’s Office, President Ram Nath Kovind made nominations on the advice of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. As per the Article 80(1)(a) of the Constitution, president have right the nominations up to 12 members but he must be having special knowledge, or practical experience in respect of literature, science, art and social service.
However, with the nominations of new Rajya Sabha members, 4 long-awaited vacancies have been filled, there were 8 nominated members in the Rajya Sabha and four posts were vacant for a long time.

Ram Shakal
Ram Shakal is the renowned public representative from Uttar Pradesh, He is known for championing the causes of farmers, worker, an immigrant. The farmer’s leader, Shakal has also been a three-time Member of Parliament. Robertsganj Lok Sabha Constituency of Uttar Pradesh has been represented by him.
Rakesh Sinha
RSS ideologue Rakesh Sinha is The founder and honorary director of the Delhi-based think-tank ‘India Policy Foundation and he is eminent and widely read author. He is also Associated with the Motilal Nehru College of Delhi University as a professor and currently, he is also a member of the Indian Council of Social Science Research.
Sonal Mansingh
Sonal Mansingh is a well-known Indian classical dancer who specializes in Bharatanatyam and Odissi.
Sonal Mansingh is also a well-known choreographer, teacher, orator and social activist. She is the founder of the Centre for Indian Classical Dances in Delhi. Sonal Mansingh is also awarded Padma Vibhushan in 2003, Padma Bhushan in 1992 and Sangeet Natak Akademi Award for Dance, Odissi.
Raghunath Mohapatra
Raghunath Mohapatra is an artist of an international repute. Practicing since 1959, over 2000 students have been trained by him.
for the preservation of traditional carve and ancient monuments, he has given his contribution. Raghunath Mohapatra is also known for the beautification of the famous Sri Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri.
All four new nominated members of the Rajya Sabha will take the oath during the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament which will start from July 18 to August 10, Each member of Rajya Sabha is elected for a term of six years.
