Rahul Gandhi Calls PM Modi A ‘Chowkidar’ Who Allows Thieves To Get In Instead Of Safeguarding

Kurnool, Andhra Pradesh: Congress Chief Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday alleged that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a kind of ‘chowkidar’ (Watchman) who allows the thieves to get in by opening the door.

The Congress Chief was addressing a public meeting in the Kurnool town of Andhra Pradesh. He further said that if the Prime Minister Narendra Modi was a realistic ‘chowkidar’ (Watchman), he would have removed Finance Minister Arun Jaitley for “allowing fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya to leave” the country.

As per the news agency reports, Rahul Gandhi said that the reason behind the Prime Minister not sacking Arun Jaitley was that “he himself was corrupt”. As a proof of that, the Congress chief cited the Rafale deal in support of the allegation he made.

Commenting over the issue of Rafale deal, Rahul Gandhi claimed that, as soon as Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister, he changed the contract signed by the earlier UPA government to purchase 126 fighter jets. He further alleged that the price for each and every fighter jet was enhanced up to Rs. 1,600 crore which was up from earlier deal by UPA regime of Rs. 526 crore.

He went on with his routine criticism over the contract and said that the contract was taken away from Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL), which has been into the business of manufacturing aircraft for about 70 years and now the NDA government has given the same contract to a private company.

Taking pot shots at Arun Jaitley over the issue of Vijay Mallya fleeing the country, he said that the Finance Minister had himself admitted the fact that Vijay Mallya “met” him and informed him that he was leaving the country. “The only possibility is that the Finance Minister allowed (Vijay) Mallya to leave the country in exchange for something. There was a deal between them,” the Congress chief alleged.

Over the issue of demonetization and the Goods and Services Tax (GST), he claimed that both the moves were aimed to take the public money from their pockets and put them instead in the country’s richest businessmen.

He further alleged that the Modi-led government at the center eliminated non-performing assets of up to Rs. 1.3 lakh crore belonging to the richest people in the country. Alongside that, the Congress Chief vowed to waive farmer’s loans as the first step of the party, if voted to power.

During the address at the public meeting and interactions with students, Mr. Gandhi said that PM Modi was proving to be disrespectful to the Andhra Pradesh people by sideling all his promises made to Andhra Pradesh during bifurcation.

He also promised that after coming to power, the Congress would surely and immediately give the special category status to the state of Andhra Pradesh as per the commitment made by the government of India at the center during the splitting of the unified state in 2014.
