NEW DELHI: At the beginning of two-day plenary session in Delhi this morning, the newly appointed party president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, asserting that the nation is being divided on many lines. “Today, anger is being spread,” Mr Gandhi, told the audience in a speech.
He tried to showcase Congress party as the only viable solution and alternative to the present Modi government.Mr “The nation is tired and looking for a way out, only Congress can show the way ahead… They (government) use anger, we use love. This country is ours. The work Congress does, it will do for the country” Gandhi said.
He further said that he hopes to build a strong and vibrant party by the contribution of all delegates.”Over the next two days I look forward to interacting with you and to sharing experiences and perspectives that will together help us build a stronger, more vibrant Congress party,” Mr Gandhi wrote on his twitter handle before the speech.
Terming the plenary session of the Congress party as 84th in sequence he acknoledged that it is being held after a total eight years. Among many senior leaders, UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, former Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Ghulam Nabi Azad were among those present.
The party is about to unveil its political strategy and vision for the coming next five years at the plenary session being held at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium in Delhi. The party is aiming to highlight all the failures of PM Modi’s government and drawing a path for next five years. Former President of Congress, Sonia Gandhi, is also expected to deliver speech in the afternoon.
The main plan is to attack the BJP and its ruling government and inculcate all its workers to gain public support for the coming general elections. Every worker will be given a chance to share their own vision for the development of the party.
Earlier to this, Rahul Gandhi held a meeting with chief ministers from Congress, and presidents of state for congress and Congress legislature party leaders from all states to give a final shape to the draft resolutions that is to be adopted at the plenary session.
Among several issues, two main resolutions, one political and another on agriculture, jobs and poverty alleviation will also be adopted. For this all the leaders and workers will be given opportunity to air their views on many key issues.
The political resolution provide a final shape to the party’s future plans of aligning with other parties to deliver a defeat to BJP at the centre in coming general election. It is also planned to highlight the issue of divide and rule policy of BJP, targeting its ideology.
