Rajiv Gandhi Assassination Case: Nalini Sriharan Gets 1 Month Parole For Daughter’s Wedding
Earlier today, Nalini Sriharan, who is currently serving a life sentence for being involved in the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi’s case, was seen walking out from jail in Tamil Nadu today.
Nalini was granted parole for one month so she could attend the wedding of her daughter.
The life convict was seen coming out from the prison with police all around her, Nalini was wearing an orange silk saree.
Nalini was greeted by her mother.
Harithra, the daughter of Nalini, will be married in the upcoming month. She is currently studying medicine in the United Kingdom. She will be arriving in India in the upcoming days.
During her parole, Nalini is not allowed to leave the premises of Vellore, Tamil Nadu, and is not allowed to speak to the media or any politicians.
The Madras High Court granted a one month leave for Nalini earlier this month.
The original plea of Nalini was six months’ leave, but she was only granted for a month leave.
During her emotional court appeal, she said, “I could not look after my daughter. I did not fulfill my motherly responsibilities. I did not fulfill my responsibilities to my father before he died. Now I’ve to meet my family for my daughter’s wedding. I’ve to arrange for finances.”
Last year, Nalini was given a day parole so she could attend the last rite rituals of 92-year-old Sankara Narayan, her father, in Chennai.
The Madras High Court has exempted Nalini to pay any charges for police security.
Last year, Shalini had to pay Rs.16,000 for police security.
Justice MM Sundaresh explained that she was only granted 30 days for the marriage of her daughter.
Nalini has been behind the bars for 28 years, and this is the first time she has requested for a leave.
Nalini Sriharan was sentenced to death for providing shelter to the assassin of Rajiv Gandhi.
But her sentence was changed afterward after Nalini gave birth to Harithra, her daughter, inside the jail.
The husband of Nalini is also in the same jail.
