Ride Hailing App – Ola To Enter Its Third International Market, New Zealand

Ride-hailing platform Ola with India being its birthplace and launchpad, on Tuesday, announced its plan to begin its operations in New Zealand. The company may launch service offerings in cities like Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. As of now, Ola has performed successfully all its operations in the countries like India, Australia, and the UK.

To make the presence of Ola felt in a local way, Brian Dewil has been given the post of Country Manager for New Zealand. Dewil has more than 15 years of experience, especially in the field of technology and startup industry.

“We see a real opportunity in New Zealand to provide a fair alternative in the ride-share space for both customers and drivers,” said co-founder and CEO Ola, Bhavish Aggarwal.

He said that the company has already invested in understanding the customer behavior and requirements in the New Zealand to be able to devise a perfect strategy to serve them the best in transport needs.

“We are the ride-share brand that cares and are looking forward to creating high-quality transport experiences for both passengers and drivers in New Zealand,” added Aggarwal.

The launch by Ola in New Zealand is in the footsteps of its launches in Australia in February 2018 and the UK in August 2018.

“Kiwis have had too little choice when it comes to ride-share. Ola’s arrival will create a compelling experience that puts the quality of rides first. I’m excited to build the local team and business in New Zealand and provide a healthy contribution to the nation’s local mobility infrastructure,” said Brian Dewil, Country Manager NZ at Ola.

Ola Cabs started its operations in Mumbai from 3 December 2010 and as of now is based in Banglore. As per the data of 2018, the company was already operating with a record 1,000,000 vehicles in about 169 cities. And in November 2014, Ola expanded to its services to offer autorickshaws as a trial one in Bangalore. And when it was successful in the trial, it slowly expanded its services of Ola Auto to cities like Delhi, Cuttack, Pune, Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata from December 2014 onwards. And in the month of 2015, it extended the service to many other cities in India.

OlaCabs bought TaxiForSure taxi-service in March 2015 for about USD 200 million. Apart from that, it acquired Geotagg (a trip-planning application company) without disclosing the buying sum, in November 2015.
