Running Barefoot May Help To Improve Your Memory: Study

These days people are becoming more conscious about their health. We can see many people run, walk or jog in the early morning with shoes. But researchers say jog or run with a barefoot gives more results than with shoe. Running with a bare foot is very good for your working memory that is the ability to recall the information.

In our lifespan working memory is very much useful and by improving we will be able to realize gains in key areas from school to work to retirement.

“Working memory is increasingly recognised as a crucial cognitive skill, and these findings are great news for people looking for a fun way to boost their working memory,” said Tracy Alloway one of the researchers, from the University of North Florida.

There are about 72 participants between the ages of 18 and 44 ran on barefoot and with shoes on a comfortable self-selected pace for about 16 minutes said the researchers. Before and after memory the working memory is measured.

“If we take off our shoes and go for a run, we can finish smarter than when we started,” Ross Alloway
In the Journal Perceptual and Motor Skills, the study is published which says there is approximately 16 per cent increase in working memory performance while running on bare foot.

More intensive use of memory is used in bare foot condition because of extra tactile and proprioceptive demands associated with bare foot running.
