Russia-backed Syrian regime’s air strikes kill 30 civilians in Eastern Ghouta : Report

Syria: Russia-backed Basharal Asad regime conducted air strikes in Eastern Ghouta in Syria, which killed at least 30 civilians on Saturday, a moniter observed. Almost a month into an offensive by the Syrian regime on the rebel enclave, these brutal strikes were conducted.

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights was not able to confirm whether who carried the strikes over the town which targeted civilians. The offensive by the Syrian regime has already taken a total of 70 percent of the enclave under its control since February 18.

“Warplanes targeted civilians in Zamalka as they prepared to flee” the southern area of the enclave held by the Faylaq al-Rahman rebel group, Observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said.

The Syrian regime has killed more than 1,390 civilians in the enclave, as per the report by the Observatory, which relies on a big network of sources over the ground.

The offensive has further pushed many of thousands to flee their homes into areas controlled by the government.

Today morning, “around 10,000 civilians streamed out of the rebel enclave into regime-held areas”, Abdel Rahman said.

About 40,000 civilians have come out of the enclave since Thursday morning, fleeing bombardment and advancing troops.

Syria internal war has killed more than 3,50,000 people and displaced several millions since it broke out in 2011 with the brutal repression of anti-government protests.
