PM Mr. Narendra modi on sunday over his “Mann Ki Baat” address on radio, asked “fathers” across the country to click selfies with their daughters in. Addressing the nation over the radio , Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a nationwide social media campaign for fathers and daughters to take selfies together, and post them on Twitter with the hashtag #SelfieWithDaughter. The selfies with taglines that strengthen the “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” campaign would be retweeted by the PM. Its all started in Haryana, a state with one of the worst sex ratios in the country, a village panchayat in Jind is trying to make a difference in a unique manner. The gram panchayat of Bibipur village has initiated a contest for the “best selfie with daughters”. The panchayat has asked parents to send their selfies to the village sarpanch on WhatsApp by June 17. The winning entry will get a trophy, certificate and Rs 2,100 cash prize on June 19.
In his ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme on Sunday 28th June the Prime Minister gave a clarion call to parents to share selfies with their daughters. He said that this was a concept originally mooted by a Sarpanch in Haryana, which caught his eye. Shri Modi stated that this idea will give a big impetus to the Government’s ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ initiative that seeks to educate more and more girls and improve the gender ratio in India.“It is heart warming that a small initiative taken by us at the village was noticed by the Prime Minister,” said Sunil Jaglan, the sarpanch whose idea went viral . He said it was a matter of pride for the village and him that the Prime Minister would take the initiative forward.
Feeling proud after the PM’s addresses, Jaglan said: “It will give a boost to the work that we are undertaking at our level.” “When I thought about the contest,” said Jaglan, “there were some who told me it was a very small initiative and will not make a difference. After what the PM said the entire nation has been involved.”As soon as PM request on #selfiewithdaughter , the internet flooded with selfies of parents with their daughters. People from all walks of life shared their selfies with their daughters, even adding what their daughters mean to them. Many said their daughters mean the world for them, while many shared memories of their daughters- like their first day at school, a family holiday with the family etc. Many wrote that their daughters are their bundles of joy.Within hours #SelfieWithDaughter became a rage across social media.
