Exactly a month after his last show on Times Now, senior journalist and talk show host Arnab Goswami again turned the king of social media trends on Thursday after he announced that his new venture would be called Republic.
Within minutes of the announcement, social media went gaga over Arnab Goswami’s new venture and he was the top trend on social networking site Facebook and the third on Twitter.
Without revealing too much information he said,
“My venture is called ‘Republic’. I seek the support of the people of India.”
Speaking further, the former editor in chief of Times Now, said that more details would be revealed only after a few weeks.
In his earlier statements, Goswami had hinted that he was interested in an ‘independent’ media venture. “Independent media is going to thrive,” Goswami had said while announcing his decision to resign, adding, “The game has just begun”, perhaps to indicate that he would not be quitting television media or the news industry.
It is reported that Goswami, who one of the most popular TV journalists in India, wants his New channel to air before 2017 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
On November 1, Goswami had resigned as the editor-in-chief of TimesNow and announced his plans to start a venture of his own. Rahul Shivshankar has since taken over as editor-in-chief of Times Now. Reports also suggest that Goswami’s core team members also resigned from TimesNow days after his resignation.
Arnab Goswami had shot to fame with his daily prime show ‘The News Hour’, through which he single-handedly brought Times Now to the fore of English News television in India. The show was the most watched news debate conducted in Goswami’s unique style.

He also conducts detailed interviews with politicians, sportspersons and celebrities on ‘Frankly Speaking’. Because of Goswami’s primetime appearance, Times Now has been able to sideline a lot of the older players in the English new space. This success had led to Arnab Goswami being promoted as President, News, of Times Now and ET Now.
