Severe Turbulence: More Than 35 People Injured In Air Canada Flight To Sydney

At least 37 people have been injured in the Air Canada flight that was on its way to Sydney when suddenly, the plane experienced severe turbulence.

The Air Canada flight was carrying 284 passengers and crew.

The flight was supposed to be heading out to Sydney but had to do an emergency landing in Hawaii.

Officials confirmed that 30 people were rushed to a hospital in Honolulu and added that 9 passengers sustained severe injuries.

In a statement that was released by Air Canada, they said that the Boeing 777-200 jet faced a jet ” clear air turbulence… two hours past Hawaii”.

What is Clear Air Turbulence?

CAT or Clear Air Turbulence is something that happens when the sky is clear and there are no clouds. It is caused when air moving at different speeds and directions meet, this is something that the naked eye can identify or a radar.

Jess Smith, a passenger of the flight, said, “We hit turbulence and we all hit the roof, and everything fell down… people went flying.”

Another passenger of the plane added, “Some people that weren’t strapped in, you saw them rise in the air and hit their heads on the roof and everything, so it was quite intense.”

Sharon Thorton, a passenger of the plane, said, “It just seemed that the plane just sank and then flew up.”

Reports suggest that most of the passengers and crew of the plane were sleeping when the plane went through severe turbulence.
