Shimla: 62-Year-Old Man Killed In His Sleep After Smoke Engulfed His Room

Police Report: 62-year-old Jagia Ram passed away of asphyxiation after smoke engulfed his room, 5 family members fell unconscious after inhaling the smoke that came for an “Angithi”, reports say that the family forgot to remove it from their sleeping room.

The incident happened in Kuther Village, which is located in the district of Chamba on Saturday night.

Monica Bhutungru, the SP of Chamba said that 62-year-old Jagia Ram passed away because of asphyxiation, his wife Peeji and their 4 grandchildren, who have been identified as Kamal, Ranjit, Sheelu, and Rakhi fell unconscious after inhaling the deadly carbon monoxide that was released from the Angithi.

The neighbours of Jagia Ram took the family to the Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital.

Monica Bhutungru, the SP of Chamba said said that 62-year-old Jagia Ram passed away while he was going through treatment in the hospital, the wife and grandchildren are now stable.

Monica Bhutungru, the SP of Chamba said that preliminary investigations have started after a cause was registered in the Bharmour Police Station, the case has been registered under the Criminal Procedure Code Section 174. The SP added that a team has been assigned to investigate the situation.
