Stephen Hawking .. probably the greatest scientist our generation has ever seen has a message for whole Humankind before his demise, We all know that he had studied universe and space better than anyone on the planet, He believes that humankind is near to its extinction, The homo sapiens might extinct like our predecessor Dinosaurs, What made him to say this? A man with knowledge of his kind will never say anything like this without a strong reason, Let’s see what made him say this.
We all are well aware of Over Population, Global Warming, pollution, are the biggest threats humankind is facing now, And the agression humans can also cause us destroying each other with nuke wars, But as per Hawking the main problem humankind facing is Climate Changes, is the main threat which can cause our extinction,Here is what he had to say about it.
One of hawking’s main fear, while he was alive, was global warming and changes in climate, In July 2017 Hawking warned that physical resources of the earth are being drained at a dangerous rate. “Rising temperatures, reduction of the polar ice caps, deforestation, and decimation of animal species. We can be an ignorant, unthinking lot,” Are his exact words when he spoke in an interview with BBC.
Hawking warned that one day earth will become a planet like Venus with 400-500C temperature levels which will obviously cause the extinction of life on our planet. The Physicist disagreed with President Trump’s decision to withdraw Climate Agreement from Paris. He believed that decision has doomed our planet.
Another thing he warned us about is Asteroid Strikes, If somehow at least few of our descendants make it alive even after nuke wars, climate changes then it’s totally impossible even for them to escape the threat coming far away from the space. We have the technology to travel lakhs of miles in space but we don’t have the technology to prevent the destruction a 10 Mitres asteroid can cause to our earth.
As per hawking Asteroid Strike is no science fiction and it is bound to happen someday, We see many asteroids passing very near to earth, One will eventually hit earth’s atmosphere and will cause the destruction which will wipe out life from the earth. Or maybe whole earth for the matter of fact.
He believes that spreading out into space in search of various planets will be the best option for humanity, If you think that there are more chances to die in space rather than earth then you are completely wrong, As per hawking future on earth is impossible, In space, you can at least have a choice.
Lately, hawking was working with Russian billionaire Yuri Milner’s Breakthrough Starshot project to send a fleet of tiny Nanocraft carrying light sails to Alpha Centauri, A star system which is approximately 4 Light years away from earth. It is also the nearest star system to earth.
Astronomers believe that there can be an Earth-like planet in Habitable zones of Alpha Centauri’s three-star system. If this project succeeds then humans can be moved there in coming centuries, Technology is growing very fast, Humans might achieve the light speed or at least 50% of it soon which means We can travel to Alpha Centauri in just 8 years of our lifetime. If we can find extraterrestrial planets on which we can build colonies then humans can split up into space.
Hawking had another warning for human kind which is not so far away. The Artificial Intelligence(AI) which is very much capable of replacing humans. Hawking claimed that soon the AI will reach a level where it’s no more just a program but a new form of life. AI will eventually outperform humans in everything he said. Hawking seriously believed that AI could eventually replace humans on planet earth making it a planet of robots. Which is no science fiction for Hawking?
In an interview, Hawking said ‘The genie is out of the bottle. I fear that AI may replace humans altogether. If people design computer viruses, someone will design AI that improves and replicates itself. This will be a new form of life that outperforms humans.” He said that AI Apocolypse is bound to happen given no control over technology from our governments.
