Bengaluru: The students at RV College of Engineering have come up with their latest development in the innovation field. After the hybrid vehicles being in the news, now they have designed a single-seater electric race car and they say that it can cover 75m within 5 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 120 kmph.

The product is operating under the banner of Team Chimera and was built from scratch in the college stable. The team claims that it can cover a distance of 40 km at a racing speed when it is fully charged. The time to get it charged will be a total of 4 hours.

The electric car was displayed at the three-day Electric Vehicle Technology Expo (EV South EXPO) that was started in Jayanagar on Friday. Soon, it became a key attraction among the visitors.

“It took us a year and Rs. 12 lakhs to come up with a fully electric race car with a weight of about 250 kg, excluding the driver, said Shrikesh S, the captain of the team of Chimera. Our focus switched from hybrid to electric as we believe electric is the future. This car was designed and built by students on the college premises,” he added.

The expo is all about showcasing the latest, technologically advanced and totally pollution-free two and three-wheeled electric vehicles like e-rickshaws, e-cars, e-scooters, e-bikes, e-bicycles along with e-loaders by more than 40 national and international companies.

From October 2 onwards, ev-max – a Hyderabad based electric vehicle online store, will pay attention to creating an ecosystem to set the trend of faster electric vehicles adoptions. The founder of ev-max, Vasu Deva Reddy, said that their web and app-based facility will provide help to customers to buy or sell their electric vehicles. The app will also provide information on service stations, spare parts and charging points for their e-vehicles.

Another news is that a private firm is currently offering battery-operated vehicles at a cost of Rs. 1.2 lakh, to collect segregated waste.

“Each hydraulic garbage loader can carry waste of 350-700 kg; it will have provision to collect wet and dry waste separately”, said Sahil Sharma, director of Haryana-based Arzoo Vehicles.

The company is holding talks with BBMP to operate these vehicles in the city of Bengaluru.

“Once charged, it can run up to 100km for a total of six to eight hours,” Sharma said.
