Hyderabad: Teenage Girl Allegedly Sets Herself On Fire In Hostel Room

In a mysterious case, a 16-year old teen studying at Hyderabad’s Sri Chaitanya College set herself on fire in her hostel room minutes after she called her mother. She had told her mother that she was willing to stay in the hostel.

While no suicide note has been found, police are investigating all possible reasons behind the incident.

Sathvika, on Tuesday, attended the classes till 12:30 pm. Right after the class, she rushed to her room and called her mother.

The smoke from Sathvika’s hostel floor was noticed by students and who returned to the class after the lunch. The hostel authorities then found her room was on fire.

“We are not sure if she used petrol, kerosene or a deodorant, as the scene was heavily burnt, even after school officials doused the fire. We have taken samples from the body and the ash, to investigate this further,”said senior police officer N Bujanga Rao.

No suicide note

No suicide note was found in the room, said another officer. “She had called her mother and told her that she does not want to stay in the hostel,” he added.

The mysterious suicide of the student has left her parents and friends stunned. Her friends have ruled out any academic problems as according to them, her performance has been among the best.

Sathvika joined Chiatanya college early this year after graduating from Vishaka Public School in Nizamabad district.

Police officials have registered a case under section 174 (suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code and her parents have been informed.
