Do you remember old case of Jasleen Kaaur and Sarvjeet Singh? Well, it had so many twists and turns. Let us highlight you about the case in short — On August 24 2015, surfaced a Facebook post by a Delhi girl called Jasleen Kaur that created a stir in social media. She had put up a picture of a guy (Sarvajeet Singh) on a Royal Enfield and had claimed that he had eve-teased her in public when she was walking down the Tilak Nagar Street. Within minutes, the post went viral all over Facebook and gained a lot of hype which was even telecasted in almost every news channel. A case was even filed by Jasleen Kaur against Sarvajeet Singh. Sarvjeet was arrested and Jasleen was awarded Rs.5000 for her bravery
The Media instantly took sides and didn’t leave any scope for shaming the guy. Jasleen gained everyone’s sympathy as she is a GIRL. They called the guy a ‘potential rapist’, a ‘pervert’, a ‘molester’ – all this outrage without any substantial proof against him.
A Twist in the Case:
After getting out on bail, the guy gave out a statement defending himself, telling a completely different version of the story. Later, the eyewitnesses came in front of the camera to reveal the truth about Jasleen and Sarvjeet case, which made the guy regain his confidence and get ready for the legal fight. After a long wait of nearly 6 months, the court’s first hearing was held on 4 March 2016, in Mahila Court, Tis Hazari. But nothing significant came of it. Instead, the court gave another date on the case which is nearly 10 months from now. The new date is June 7.
TIMES NOW Into Legal Mess:
Here comes the sensational Indian media that put itself in trouble. The famous news channel ‘Times Now’ has fallen into legal trouble since it has reported the news in the wrong way. This journalist without listening to Sarvjeet’s side kept lashing out at him and kept blaming him. But now, this channel has fallen into trouble. Finally, NBSA (News Broadcasting Standards Authority) has sent a legal notice to the channel.
As per the notice, the channel is asked for RS. 50,000 fine and a Public Apology on the 22nd of March 2016 on full screen with proper voice over! Times Now is required to broadcast the following apology:
“We regret that while reporting the interview of Mr Sarabjit Singh, who is accused of eve-teasing by Ms Jasleen Kaur, on 24.08.2015, we had failed to comply with Code of Ethics and Broadcasting Standards of NBA requiring broadcasters to maintain neutrality, impartiality, accuracy and fairness and also failed to follow the specific guidelines of NBSA relating to reportage of matters under investigation.”
The court has sent a legal notice to remove that particular video but you can watch another video from the same channel that shows ugly truth of Media Trial.
