Remember Pranav Dhanawade? The Kalyan boy who created a world record by scoring 1009* in a U-16 inter-school cricket match on January 5th. He is trending on social media once again about his non-selection in the U-16 West Zone squad for the inter-zonal cricket tournament.
Pics of both were shared on social media with a caption, “Eklavya” once again lost to “Arjun”. But how many of you know the truth behind the selection of Arjun Tendulkar ? Here are some unknown facts behind selecting Arjun Tendulkar for U-16 West Zone squad for the inter-zonal cricket tournament.
Facts Behind Selecting Arjun Tendulkar:
A message is doing rounds on social media targeting Arjun Tendulkar, son of legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar. As per the viral message, Arjun Tendulkar has been selected in the under-16 team despite the fact that in a game against North zone, he was clean bowled at 0 as well as in 12 overs, gave 52 runs. On the other hand, Pranav Dhanawade, who was in the limelight lately for making record-breaking 1009 runs in a local game in just 323 balls isn’t selected in the team.
Arjun’s selection was done on the basis of Payyade Trophy, in which he had scored a century and had taken 4 wickets in a match. Pranav had not played in that tournament. Hence, couldn’t make into the team. The viral message is false. The fact is that West Zone’s U-16 team is picked from the MCA U-16 team, which Pranav was not a part of.
Dhanawade’s father himself has come out and squashed all the rumours saying his son was not eligible for selection, so why the controversy? Prashant Dhanawade told the media that certain sections of their fraternity are spreading false stories regarding Pranav’s non-selection. Pranav’s father Prashant also added the viral message was wrong as Arjun was selected in the team before Pranav played the astonishing innings.
Pranav Father’s Reaction About U-16 Selection:
Prashant also said that both Arjun and Pranav are good friends and this controversy has not come in between their friendship. Both have been playing together in the U-19 camps and progressing only because of their talent. While Arjun is an all-rounder, Pranav is a wicket-keeper batsman.
