Watch Dalit Youth Hacked To Death For Marrying Upper Caste Girl In Tamil Nadu

Yet another incident of Caste Violence that took place in Tamil Nadu. In the video below, we can see a couple being thrashed by goons in the public while everyone are watching. This incident took place in Udumalpet in Tirupur where the culprits hacked the man to death. According to the reports, it is said that the attackers were the woman’s relatives and they killed him for making an inter-caste marriage.

A 22-year-old engineering graduate from a Dalit family married 19-year-old Kausalya from Thevar Community eight months ago opposing her parents. The Thevars are a dominant community in southern Tamil Nadu.

According to police, the assailants swooped down on Sankar and Kausalya with sickles on a crowded street near Udumalaipettai bus stop around 3 pm on Sunday. Sankar was hacked to death by three men on a motorbike at a busy junction in Udumalaipettai town of Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur district on Sunday afternoon. The woman, Kausalya, 19, was also attacked and is admitted to a local hospital with multiple injuries.

An officer involved in the probe said Sankar and Kausalya were both students of an engineering college near Pollachi in Coimbatore district. “Sankar was a final year student and Kausalya was in the second year when they got married last year,” the officer said.

“She comes from the Thevar community (and) her parents were opposed to the wedding. Kausalya had filed a complaint at the local police station against her father a few weeks ago, stating that he had been threatening them and insisting that she return home.”

Senior officers investigating the case have verified the image of the three assailants fleeing on a bike. Police officials said that a major search operation was on, the police could not ascertain the identity of the attackers until late Sunday evening. This horrific incident brings to light the severity of the problem of caste violence in Tamil Nadu.
