After taking the decision of Rs. 500 and 1000 currency notes ban to end corruption, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe on Friday, commencing a three-day bilateral meeting in Japan, to discuss developing the two countries.
While addressing the diaspora in Japan on Saturday, PM Narendra Modi thanked Indians for welcoming the demonetization move of his government and hit back at those who criticised the decision. Hitting out at those criticising the move, Narendra Modi said some people are busy poking others to make them speak against him.
Highlights In Modi Speech:
- I salute each and every Indian. Many families had weddings, health problems…yes they faced inconvenience but they accepted the decision.
- I will fully back honest people and go to any extent to punish the corrupt.
- This government will do everything to protect the interests of honest citizens.
- We cannot guarantee that after the completion of this scheme, there will be no further move to keep the corrupt in check.
- This decision wasn’t taken overnight. We brought in a scheme first. It’s not that no opportunity was given, it was given.
- I was pondering over the difficulties, our team was thinking of ways. But obviously, I couldn’t share it with anyone.
- This (demonetisation) is a big cleanliness drive of the country.
- Looking forward to fruitful deliberations that will boost economic and cultural ties between India and Japan.
- I will check records since independence. If I come across unaccounted cash, nobody will be spared.
- This is a major cleanliness programme. This is not to harass anyone.
- When I was thinking about this move, I was pondering about the problems people would have to face. I was not thinking about the benefits. And this is something I couldn’t tell anyone.
- This government will do everything to protect the interests of honest citizens, but those who have been hoarding black money will not be spared.
- Today, I can proudly say that no Indian will ever stand behind.
