Why PM Narendra Modi Visited Tesla Motors Headquarters – For Powerwall Or Expensive Car?

Indian Prime Minister on a 5-day tour of America recently visited the factory of the world’s popular electric car Tesla. He met Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk to discuss the implications of the Tesla Powerwall—the company’s battery energy storage technology—for India. He discussed with him different ways in which battery technology can be helpful to the farmer in the hour long visit.

The $3000 Tesla Powerwall, or any similar concept, could help make a lot of Indian households self-sufficient in their energy needs at least for most of the year.

Actually Why PM Modi visited Tesla Motors Headquarters?

At Tesla, Modi was not really looking to bring the technology behind Elon Musk’s highly successful, but extremely expensive, cars to India. From the photographs, it seems he also got a good look at a gleaming red example of Tesla’s flagship EV, the Model S.

Modi and Musk also discussed the possibility of a more affordable car from the company and how batteries and solar panels can be used for the future electric generation in the rural areas of the country.

Is Tesla coming to India?

Currently, Tesla has four electric cars to offer; which are – Roadster, Model S, Model X and the upcoming Model 3. Tesla had in the recent past shown interest in India, when last year it revealed its plans to enter the Indian market with its upcoming sedan.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Tesla now decides to reach Indian shores at least with one of its cars soon. But the important thing which the visit did achieve was to start discussions on Tesla’s Powerwall technology usage in India which helps to store electricity in a battery for a longer duration
