A 71-year-old Japanese man has been arrested in Tokyo, Japan, for calling a telecom company 24,000 times to register a complaint.
According to reports, 71-year-old Akitoshi Okamoto made 24,000 thousand calls to KDDI’s free number in just 8 days.
The old man said the company violated his contract.
The company told the local media that the 71-year-old man had been calling them repeatedly for a total of 2 years and 6 months.
But Akitoshi has something different in his mind.
The 71-year-old man denies harassing the firm and told the police that he was the real victim of the situation.
Akitoshi said KDDI violated his contract as his phone was unable to pick up radio broadcasts.
According to the Metropolitan Police of Tokyo, Akitoshi would call the company to insult the customer service staff.
The 71-year-old also demanded a representative to visit him in his house to apologize.
The spokesperson of KDDI claims that Akitoshi would also call the customer service line of the company and would hang up immediately after someone answers it.
KDDI did not have any plans to press charges against the man at first, but due to his frequent calls, they decided to do something about the man.
The company said the man called them so much that they had a hard time dealing with other customers.
The spokesperson of the Metropolitan Police of Tokyo said 71-year-old Akitoshi Okamoto was arrested on suspicion of “fraudulent obstruction of business”, a charge that is placed against people who make it impossible for a business to run in a normal way.
