Terrifying images are viral on social media right now, and they show a scorched hillside with dotted fires after massive bushfire sparked mass evacuation in rural Victoria.
The heartbreaking images were taken on Saturday in Euroa, Victoria.
The images showed what was left of the fire after it raced across Balmattum Hill Bushland Reserve and nearly destroyed the town.
The heartbreaking images were shared by Maindample Rural Fire Brigade, along with the caption “Looks like lava.”
Melissa Ericksen, a resident, said she watched more than 40 fire trucks, 3 helicopters, and 3 aircraft battle the massive fires.
After the successful fight, the fire was put down.
Melissa said, “Balmattum Hill is really glowing tonight, however not as much as all of our incredible and selfless emergency services. Thank you.”
Talking about the Balmattum Hill, Melissa said, “Balmattum Hill is a place I have walked all my life and it appeared to be covered in lava under the darkness.”
She said the picture is beautiful yet terrifying at the same time.
The fire department of the area did an amazing job in containing the fire, preventing house and other catastrophic damages in the down.
18-year-old Jackson Leslight, a resident in the area, said the sudden change of direction in the wind helped in saving their house.
Jackson said his parents and his girlfriend only had 15 minutes to pack the things they needed after a warning was sent out.
The fire was 400 meters away from their house.
