Florida Man Depressed By COVID-19 Shoots Dead Cancer-Survivor Wife And 21-Year-Old Son
A man killed his entire family after being depressed about the ongoing coronavirus situation.
57-year-old Smith Rivera killed his cancer survivor wife and 21-year-old son on the morning of Saturday, said the police.
Rivera is also accused of injuring another of his sons in the horrific shooting.
57-year-old Jodi Rivera and 21-year-old Matthew Rivera were found with gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead by the Orange County Fire Rescue.
59-year-old Rivera has been arrested and charged with 2 counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and 1 count of attempted first-degree murder with a firearm.
The sister of Rivera said that he had been depressed because of the pandemic sweeping the globe.
It is alleged that he confessed the crimes that he committed to the police.
Reports suggest that Rivera got out of the vehicle, approached the authorities, and said “I shot my wife”.
Authorities said:
There were multiple shell casings on the floor of the residence and on the driveway to the residence. A box of ammunition was found on the floor of the bathroom where the suspect was seen going with his firearm.
The other son of River paid tribute to his mother on Facebook, where he said:
Mom I will be everything I promised you and much more … I love you so so so much.
According to the arrest report, Rivera fired his weapon at a third person, who managed to escape.
The sister of Smith confirmed that the third person who managed to escape was the second son of her brother.
