Over 2 million acres of land have been torched by massive wildfires that are currently happening in California, USA.
The deadly fires have left hundreds of people homeless and millions of people without electricity.
In 2018, around 1.9 million acres of fire were destroyed by a wildfire, and now, it is at 2 million acres, said California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection.
There are no indications of the fires slowing down.
Temperatures are currently soaring fast and offshore winds are making the fires spread faster than the average.
On September 7, 2020, the California Fire Department said that fire departments across the state should be prepared for what could potentially be more significant wildfires as a result of the extreme weather conditions that they have.
30 houses in a village in Big Creek have been completely destroyed by the wildfires.
On September 5, 2020, 207 people were airlifted to safety.
Military helicopters were also deployed to help rescue hikers that got trapped by the wildfires in the Sierra National Forest. However, the rescue mission was called off because of heavy smoke in the area.
7,000 acres that got destroyed by the wildfires were a result of a gender reveal party.
A ‘smoke generating pyrotechnic device’ sparked a blaze that rapidly spread through the area of Oak Glen in San Bernadino County, said the authorities.
On September 6, 2020, Governor Gavin Newson declared a state of emergency in 5 different California counties, which includes Fresno, Madera, Mariposa, San Bernardino, and San Diego.
So far, around 14,100 firefighters have been deployed to battle 24 separate wildfires, which have destroyed a total of 2 million acres of land.
