According to Chanel, the gathering was organized by a local Black activist, who was releasing some balloons to honor a victim of violence.
The woman that was arrested by the police has been identified as 25-year-old Deja Stallings.
She is 9 months pregnant, said Stacy Shaw, her attorney.
The police said that one of the officers tried to arrest Stallings while she was standing, but she was continuously resisting physical arrest, at which point he had to place her on the ground so he could arrest her.
Their arrests occurred out of view of the security camera video.
The police officer that arrested the woman said that he was not applying any pressure on his legs when he was kneeling on the woman.
The police also called an ambulance at the scene to make sure that Stallings was okay.
She was evaluated at a hospital and was released by the police.
In a statement that Shaw released, she said:
The question is only why this officer body slammed a pregnant woman and put his knee and her back. What they’re saying is because they asked her to leave, because she was pulling this away from an officer that that somehow justifies a white, large officer, body slamming 120-some pound, nine month pregnant woman, twisting her arm above her head and kneeling in her back.
Stallings is being charged with interfering with an arrest.
