Greater Noida Yamuna Expressway turns up as a death trap this winter morning after killing 2 people on the spot and injuring 20 people severely after around 29 vehicles rammed and collided with each other. Yet the state of few injured seems to be critical and they are fighting for their lives. This unfortunate incident occurred during the early hours of Friday on Yamuna expressway at greater Noida. Rescue operations were carried out in full swing after the occurrence of the accident messing the easy drive of all and blocking the roadway which led to the traffic jam on the expressway. Police personnel’s and medical personnel’s with ambulances and medical aid rushed to the spot and carried on rescue operations and have been investigating the mishap.

Accident Stretched Over a Kilometer
Official of police addressed media and said that “Right now we have 2 casualties and 20 people severely injured with the multi vehicle collision involving 28 vehicles on the Yamuna Expressway. As per the eye witnesses and victims dense fog has been reported the cause of the accident while we are investigating the mishap.” The accident took place between the Greater Noida and Jewar area of the highway stretching along a kilometer. As per the sources, who witnessed the accident said that initially a bus rammed into a car due to low visibility because of the foggy conditions leading to the series of crashes on the Yamuna Expressway. Later a PAC truck and around 22 cars rammed into the two vehicles, police said.
The deceased were identified as RM Sinha and AK Das, both employees of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL), 20 others were injured in the accident and have been rushed to hospital and condition of three persons was stated to be critical. “Pile-ups occurred on both sides of the Yamuna Expressway, before the Jewar toll plaza at around 9am. First, a truck hit a Chevrolet Tavera from behind due to dense fog on the Agra-Noida route. Several other vehicles coming from behind rammed each other, creating a massive pile-up,” said SK Yadav, station officer, Jewar police station. The second accident occurred when motorists on the opposite lane stopped to watch the pile-up, triggering another one on the Noida-Agra lane, he added.

“Poor Vision On Yamuna Expressway” – BHEL Driver
Friday comes out to be a bad day for the BHEL as most of the victims seem to be their staff. Shweta Singh who is also recognized as BHEL employee, was critically injured. Pradeep driver of BHEL vehicle who had been severely injured rushed to the nearby hospital and admitted. When he was asked about the accident he said that “We were traveling towards Agra when I spotted the pile-up. I immediately applied the brakes. Then I reversed my car to overtake the stationary vehicles but a speeding bus hit us from behind, killing both occupants of the back seat,” Pradeep said. According to him, rescue workers took more than an hour to bring them to the hospital to avoid more accidents in the fog. “A platoon of provincial action constabulary rushed to the spot to prevent further accidents but by then the damage was done. The accident occurred due to less visibility,” said Preetinder Singh, senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
The injured were rushed to Kailash Hospital and Jaypee Hospital in Greater Noida. Staff at the Jaypee Hospital confirmed that six British tourists, identified as Jack, Michel, Cathleen, Helen, Sobaran Singh and Surendra Kaur were brought in with minor injuries and discharged after primary treatment.
