Kakinada: Taking the issue of Special Category Status issue of Andhra Pradesh at a new height, YSR Congress Party president YS Jaganmohan Reddy on Saturday called for Andhra Pradesh bandh on July 24.

“We are calling for Andhra Pradesh bandh against the injustice meted out to the state by the central government,” Mr. Reddy told reporters.

“We will support any party at the national level. Our only demand is special category status to Andhra Pradesh,” he added.

Taking a serious note of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s speech on the No-Confidence Motion in the Lok Sabha, in which Modi said that he had already warned the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) of falling into YSR Congress Party’s trap, Mr. Reddy said, “We have been speaking about these things since last four years. Now TDP picked up the same and aimed at the Centre. Our sincerity appears trap to Modi?”

On Friday, in his speech, Prime Minister Modi said: “When TDP was leaving NDA, I called up N. Chandrababu Naidu, warned him that you are falling into YSR Congress’s trap. I want to tell the people of Andhra Pradesh that we will keep working for them. We will do everything possible for the development of the state.”

But the No-Confidence Motion was defeated by the Prime Minister Modi-led NDA Government in its first-floor test in the Lok Sabha.

The ruling government at the center received a comfortable majority of 325 votes in total in its favor from those who voted against the No-Confidence Motion compared to less than half 126 votes by the opposition parties out of total 451 lawmakers present in the Lower House.

The move for no-confidence by the TDP saw opposition parties accusing the Modi-led NDA government of neglecting Andhra Pradesh and not at all considering giving it a special status. Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS), the other state formed out of the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, supported the NDA.

Earlier, TDP Chief Chandrababu Naidu has accused Modi and BJP led government at the center of betraying the state of Andhra Pradesh for the second time despite making promises to make the state a special category one. To get support for there stance in Lok Sabha, the TDP sent its delegation to Chief Minister of Delhi and head of Aam Aadmi Party, Kejiriwal, requesting him to support the no-confidence motion in the parliament. Kejiriwal assured them of all support and did according to that in the Lower House.
