The second day of the ongoing Test match between India and Sri Lanka at Feroz Shah Kotla was full of action. While Indian skipper Virat Kohli marched on where he left on the first day and scored his record-breaking sixth double century. Followed by some annoying drama and uncalled pauses by Sri Lankans.
The Sri Lankan players were seen wearing masks due to the weather condition in New Delhi. It all started after the lunch where the visitors expressed their concern about the quality of air in the city and they can’t continue to play with such bad environment.
The drama didn’t just seem to stop and there were perplexed scenes at the Kotla time and again. First Gamage and then Lakmal both walked off leaving their overs in between. The game was stopped again and again for this apparent ploy from Sri Lanka. Whether it was a tactic or a genuine issue they faced is something only they would know.
At one point, Sri Lanka forced India to declare as they had only 10 men on the field. Time and again, the things got uglier. They were one man shot and had no substitute fielders left to fill in the spot as those sitting out were already struggling.
Meanwhile, Sri Lankan physio and fielding coach was seen at the boundary line wearing the white dress, perhaps coming in to field for his team. As one after the other Sri Lankans halted play, Indian Skipper, Virat Kohli got really infuriated. Before this, even Ravi Shastri had walked on to the ground being animated while talking to the umpires.
The Indian skipper didn’t look happy at the way the game was going post the smog break, and he signaled to Ravindra Jadeja and Wriddhiman Saha to come back as the hosts wanted to have a crack at the visitor’s batting and declared the innings while India was 536/7.
Seeming happy with the declaration, Sri Lanka wicket-keeper clapped and a few players laughed at the decision while looking towards Indian dressing room as they didn’t have to bowl anymore. It seemed like Sri Lankan players mocked Virat Kohli’s decision of declaring the innings as they seemed to burst into laughter.

This was surely in an incident where the Sri Lankan players stooped low even though Kohli’s decision of declaration was to help Sri Lanka itself. Nonetheless, it was a great day for Kohli as he scored his sixth double ton and en route surpassed former West Indies cricketer Brian Lara in terms of most Test double tons as a captain.
