As soon as the tenth edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded with Mumbai Indians beating Rising Pune Supergiant to the title for the third time, Chennai Super Kings announced their much-awaited return to the IPL on their Twitter handle.
Arguably, Chennai Super Kings is one of the loved franchise in the IPL history. MS Dhoni led team is all set to make a comeback in the next edition of the IPL alongside the fellow suspended Rajasthan Royals.
The Chennai-based team along with Rajasthan Royals was suspended for a couple of years in 2015 over a corruption scandal. Both the franchises were suspended for the alleged involvement of their owners in the 2013 Indian Premier League betting and fixing cases.
The franchise from Chennai announced their return on the microblogging platform in some style after Mumbai Indians’ victory over the Rising Pune Supergiant. Before their exit from the tournament, CSK had won two IPL titles.

One against the batting oriented side Royal Challengers Bangalore and other against three-time champions Mumbai Indians. While Rajasthan Royals also have won the tournament once; as they had glory in the inaugural season of the competition, where the side was led by Australian leg-spinner Shane Warne.
What About RPS and GL?
Chennai and Rajasthan’s return, meanwhile, will end this year’s finalist Rising Pune Supergiant and Gujarat Lions’ sojourn in the Indian Premier League. Both the teams were introduced in 2016 to fill in for the suspended teams. IPL chairman Rajeev Shukla has already said that the two newcomers will not get an extension after this season.
“No extension is being given to both the teams (RPS and Lions). The agreement was only for two years. Even if we make it a 10-team league, the two new teams would have to be freshly bid, so they (RPS and GL) are not being given any extension or anything,” Shukla had said earlier this month.
However, the crazy fans of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals have never let their team down despite the team’s absence from the premier competition for two straight seasons in a row. IPL 2018, hence, will see CSK and RR making a comeback. Their fans must be over-excited as they had to wait for two years to see their men on the field and now just the wait of one more year.
