MS Dhoni is known for making decisions on the parameters of tried and tested but eventually got successful. Dhoni has made a lot of decisions taking the LOGIC into consideration throughout his career. For the most important decisions on the field and off the field, Dhoni has often trusted his instinct and what we call in other terms the ‘gut feeling’. Maybe this gut feeling made him one of the most successful captains in the world.
MS Dhoni biopic has revealed few incidents of his personal life, even he himself promoting ahead of Yuvraj Singh in the 2011 World Cup final. Dhoni hadn’t had the great times in the tournament so far in which he scored 150 runs in 8 matches, whereas Yuvraj Singh was the man in form with bat and ball who scored 341 runs in the tournament.
Sachin and Sehwag were dismissed early and Gambhir and Kohli were busy in securing the innings for the team. However, Sri Lankans broke the important partnership when India’s score was 114. This made Dhoni think of himself promoting ahead of Yuvraj Singh. Though MS Dhoni scored stunning 91 runs to clinch the World Cup after 28 years, what all think that why did Dhoni promote himself ahead of Yuvraj?
Dhoni’s biopic has completely revealed what happened before MS Dhoni entered into the field ahead of Yuvraj.
“MS Dhoni: Excuse me, Gary. If a wicket goes down, I think I should go in.
Gary Kirsten: But, Yuvi is padded up and ready.
Dhoni: No, it is Murali, I think I should go in.
Gary Kirsten: You sure?
Dhoni: Just, tell him (Yuvraj), I will go.”
Team India’s mental conditioning coach during the World Cup 2011, Paddy Upton was in an interview was quoted saying: “Dhoni’s choice to go ahead of Yuvi was nothing short of a masterstroke, an excellent example of his gut-feeling for the game. “Yuvi had delivered so many great performances. He possibly had used up a lot of his mental energy, and his energy tanks were near empty. Dhoni’s were still pretty full, and he is possibly the best in the world game for taking on the high pressure to close a critical game for his team.”
“When he walked out to bat, I turned to Gary Kirsten and said, “He’s going to go and fetch the World Cup for us,” Upton concluded.
