India ODI skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni extended his support to the British Army by playing in an inaugural T20 cricket match fundraiser, ‘Cricket for Heroes’ which is held at The Kia Oval, London on Thursday. An exciting match was played out on Thursday night between the ‘Help for Heroes XI’ and ‘Rest of the World XI’.
Virender Sehwag and MS Dhoni were star performers from the winning side, the HFH XI. Dhoni (38 off 22) hit a boundary in front of a 20,000-strong crowd at the Oval in the final over of the game to help his side chase down ROW XI’s 158/6.
Finisher MS Dhoni hits winning runs in charity match:
Brendon McCullum’s ROW XI batted first and made 158 runs. Virender Sehwag (30) and current Director of England Cricket, Andrew Strauss (26) scored 63 in the powerplay. Sehwag and Strauss fell before ROW struck to dismiss Damien Martyn and Herschelle Gibbs leaving the the Help for Heroes side requiring 82 to win off the final 10 overs.
Dhoni, in the company of Major Storm Green (British Army) and Middlesex’s David Malan, then unfurled a flurry of boundaries to reduce the asking rate. With 4 runs required off the final 4 balls, Dhoni finished the match in his style with a boundary. He was named Man of the match for his efforts.
