In a thrilling Natwest T20 Blast match, Yorkshire got the better of Worcestershire at Leeds to maintain their number one spot in the group. David Willey smashed 118 off 55 balls which included 9 fours and 8 sixes.
Willey slammed the bowlers like a boss all over the park. At the opposite side, John Hastings went for 58 runs in just 2 overs. But it’s Ross Whiteley who stole the thunder from David Willey by hitting six sixes.
The 28-year-old created history as he smashed six sixes off left-arm spinner Karl Carver, but despite the heroics, they were still far away from the target as they needed 60 from 4 overs. Ross Whiteley becomes the sixth man to hit achieve the feat in world cricket, after Sir Garry Sobers, Ravi Shastri, Herschelle Gibbs, Yuvraj Singh and Lancashire’s Jordan Clark.
Willey’s 55-ball assault had broken quite a few records as Yorkshire reached county-best 233/6 in their 20 overs. Worcestershire’s Whiteley later hit left-arm spinner Karl Carver over the ropes six times in 16th over.
Whiteley went on to score 65 runs off 26 balls which were laced with 2 fours and 8 sixes – but could not take the team home as they ended the 20 overs with 196 runs and eight wickets.

Whiteley was quoted saying,
“I had the mentality that I was going to go for it before I got in. I hit the first out of the screws and needed to keep going for the team, not for that achievement. It’s something I never really thought I’d do in professional cricket. “Personal milestone is great, but it’s hard to get away from the defeat. It’s pretty tough to take. We’ve lost four out of five and are right down at the bottom. Obviously, we have to bounce back. There’s no reason why we can’t.”
After he fell for 65 off 26 balls, Rapids’ innings concluded at 196 for 7, incurring a 37-run defeat.
