India’s all-rounder Hardik Pandya is currently playing his maiden Test series. Though Hardik Pandya is just three matches old in Test cricket, he already has a record to his name. Given the opportunity to Hardik, he has seized it in fashion.
In the third Test against Sri Lanka, Pandya came into bat at number eight and scored an 86-ball century for India. And he also achieved the feat of most runs by an Indian batsman in a single over. He also became the first Indian to score 100 runs before lunch time.
Pandya came to the crease yesterday (Day-1) at 322/6, India added seven more runs before stump, and with Sri Lanka fighting back, the honors were equal at the end of day’s play. On Day-2 morning, the Baroda all-rounder single-handedly took on the hosts and in the process helped India get to a dominating position.
During his innings, Pandya took 26 runs off an over hitting two fours and three sixes. This is the most runs taken off an over by an Indian batsman in Test cricket. Left-arm spinner Malinda Pushpakumara bowled the over to Pandya, who had scored seven off the previous two deliveries he had faced, and he took the aggressive path straight away.
He often comes to bat when India stays in the driving seat, but today was his opportunity to claim the stakes of a Test player. Pandya ramped the short ones and hammered the loose ones. Earlier in the morning, Pandya was seen celebrating his fifty in 2-2 Dhawan style. The all-rounder flashed out two huge maximum and then a boundary to reach his maiden Test century. The 2-2 celebration was out again.
This was the fastest century by an Indian batting at no 8, putting all the talks about his position to rest. Sri Lanka looked like a team without any plan, as the game kept on slipping from their lap. Hence, Twitterati couldn’t stop praising Hardik for the achievement.
