The Proteas had finally managed to apply brakes to team India’s winning streak in the ongoing 6-match Momentum ODI series by winning the 4th ODI in Johannesburg by 5 wickets by Duckworth-Lewis Method (D/L) on Saturday.
The match witnessed a few action-packed moments, that saw dropped catches, poor fielding and the South African batsmen dominating the Indian spinners Yuzvendra Chahal and Kuldeep Yadav for the first time in the series. Though the top order of South Africa failed, their middle order batsmen stunned everyone with amazing performance.
Heinrich Klaasen was the hero of the night to trump the well-balanced and strong Indian side. South Africa chased down a rain-reduced target of 202 in 28 overs with five wickets and 15 balls to spare to keep alive their hopes of sharing the six-match series after losing the first three games.
Klaasen played a crucial inning and provided the much-needed momentum to the innings. Amidst all the tension in the middle, one shot of South African wicket-keeper batsman was hilarious that it left everyone in splits even Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
Klaasen, playing only in his 2nd ODI changed the game on its head as he started hitting the ball aggressively right from the word go. He took the liking particularly to Yuzvendra Chahal and tried to hit him out of the attack. Kohli and Chahal tried a strategy and packed the leg side field inside the circle and opted to bowl wide outside the off-stump to him.
Chahal anticipated the right-handed batsman to go after him and hence bowled the ball short and wide outside off. But, Klaasen moved across to the ball and pulled it over square leg for a boundary. Eventually, he was successful in his attempt and collected a boundary after which everyone was left stunned.
Even Kohli was left smiling after being trumped by the newbie in international cricket in a funny way.
