‘I Don’t Joke In The Ground’ – MS Dhoni’s Reply To Suresh Raina’s ‘Not Captain Cool’ Comment

‘Captain Cool’ has become a household name for the former Indian skipper MS Dhoni. Nobody can deny the victories his bale captain has won in his decade-long career in international cricket. The man who has won applause and appreciation for his ability to keep his emotions in check and remain calm even in the most charged-up environments.

There are a plenty of questions which were unanswered till now. Despite the low stats, he is carrying these days, everything else was going too well for Dhoni, none has affected the wide range of fans he has got worldwide.

After a long time, Dhoni’s best friend Suresh Raina who played for team India and IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings (CSK) went on to reveal how even Dhoni gets angry on the field. This left-handed all-rounder made this revelation when he appeared on the Gaurav Kapur’s chat show ‘Breakfast with Champions’.

Raina said, “His eyes don’t show any emotion. Despite not wearing sunglasses, you cannot tell (about his emotions). We will be like ‘come on, man. show us some reaction’. But he does get angry, you don’t see it. The cameras don’t pick it up. But as soon as the telecast cuts to the ads, he will say ‘Better get your act together’.”

He went on to reveal an incident from India vs Pakistan match when Dhoni asked Raine to keep building pressure on Pakistan after Umar Akmal complained to Dhoni, the then skipper Raina. Raina also lauded Dhoni for his ability to read the game situations and how he goes about his business before executing his plans.

He said, “Once in an India vs Pakistan match, Umar Akmal complaint to Dhoni that I was abusing him. When Dhoni asked me what happened, then I said that I was just throwing a few balls and putting pressure on them. Mahi Bhai bole, aur de s**le ko (MS Dhoni asked me to build more pressure on Pakistan).”

However, when asked about Raina’s statements, Dhoni tackled the query with a straight bat and defended his stand in a light manner.

“There are many zones in the middle of it where you enjoy and make fun. Once (I am playing) on the ground, I do not joke around, but inside the dressing room, I enjoy a lot. I conduct myself according to how I think I should conduct myself in different areas,” said Dhoni.

Speaking at an event organized by Indian Army in North Kashmir, Dhoni also shared his opinion on the possibility of engaging in bilateral series with Pakistan.

“When it comes to India-Pakistan cricket, it is not just sports, but becomes much bigger than that. It is not a simple decision, but a diplomatic and a political decision,” said Dhoni on his visit to the war-torn valley. “So, it is a big decision and I think we should leave it to the government to decide. If the government decides, we will go and play and if they decide against it, we will play some other series,” he said.
