Are you one of the Twitter users? If yes, you might know about the character limit which is restricted to 140. Now, you can write more on Twitter as the character limits have been increased to 280 from 140. Twitter users can now have display names up to 50 characters long, up from 20.
Announcing the change late Thursday, Twitter said, “Starting today, your Twitter display name can be up to 50 characters in length! Go ahead, add that middle name or even a few more emojis.”
While you are also free to change your username, the handle beginning with “@” that other people use to mention you, the limit there remains at 15 characters.
However, Twitter announced the same after testing it. Here’s what was written by Twitter in its blog post, “Our goal was to make this possible while ensuring we keep the speed and brevity that makes Twitter, Twitter. Looking at all the data, we’re excited to share we’ve achieved this goal and are rolling the change out to all languages where cramming was an issue.”
Fortunately, this announcement made many users happy and they expressed their joy with tweets. Even the International Cricket Council (ICC) celebrated the moment.
Taking a jibe at Sri Lankan cricketers who, mostly, have big names, ICC tweeted the pics of four cricketers with a caption, “Thanks to #280characters, we can now use the following names! Warnakulasuriya Patabendige Ushantha Joseph Chaminda Vaas, Handunnettige Deepthi Priyantha Kumar Dharmasena, Dickwella Patabendige Dilantha Niroshan Dickwella, Herath Mudiyanselage Rangana Keerthi Bandara Herath.”
