New Zealand Batsman Mark Chapman Dismissed In One Of The Unluckiest Ways Ever

Cricket is one of the most complex sports in the world. There are a number of ways for batsmen to lose their wicket. You can get out bowled, LBW and caught behind the wicket. In the same way, there are other ways you can lose your wicket like hit-wicket.

It was a spell bounding performance by the Aussies for a record run chase that seemed unbelievable at its start. David Warner and D’Arcy Short set the ball rolling and their aggression set the sight easy for the middle order batsmen Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch.

For the hosts, it was a broken display in the field with no answers to Australia’s assault. 18 wides, two no-balls, and free-hits tell its own tale. It ended in a sad way despite Colin Munro’s outstanding batting and Martin Guptill’s century, making him the leading run-scorer in T20Is.

It doesn’t matter who you support, you’ve got to feel for this guy. Mark Chapman was going well against the Aussies in today’s T20I when he came unstuck by a Billy Stanlake bouncer. New Zealand were 220 for 3 ahead of the last ball of the 18th over when Chapman missed his pull shot and took a nasty blow to the helmet.

But as if that wasn’t painful enough, things quickly went from bad to worse. As Chapman swiveled around, his helmet cannoned into the floor and rolled into the stumps with enough force to knock the bails off. The Hong Kong-born batsman smiled as he made his way off having made 16 from 14 balls but the freak dismissal wasn’t too costly.

Martin Guptill’s 105 off 54 balls helped propel them to 243-6 off their 20 overs at Eden Park. The total is even more impressive given Eden Park is the third-lowest scoring T20 venue in New Zealand.

Guptill’s 49-ball century was New Zealand’s fastest T20 ton eventually took him to 2,188 T20I runs surpassing compatriot Brendon McCullum’s 2,140, with Indian run machine Virat Kohli the next highest on the all-time list with 1,956.
